50€ Decks with a Competitive Attitude
50€ Budget Commander is a competitive way to play Commander that places emphasis on creativity and freedom in deck expression. It’s a way to play competitively that’s both accessible and broadly diverse.
What Is Budget Commander?
50€ Decks
All decks must cost a total of 50€ or less. This is calculated using Moxfield’s “updated to cheapest” function. To participate in a tournament, the deck must be submitted ahead of time and will then be locked in its current state, regardless of future price fluctuations.
Competitive Commander
The decks are built and played with a competitive mindset. Winning is the only goal, and any steps may be taken towards it. There is no need for a “rule 0” discussion, the game changer list doesn’t apply and there’s no taking back mistakes. The decks are built and played with the specific goal of tournament participation.
Sol Ring Ban
Our tournaments follow all of the regular Commander rules and the regular Commander ban list, with Sol Ring being the one exception. Sol Ring is banned for being an extreme outlier in its power to cost ratio. If allowed, Sol Ring would decide many matches simply for being drawn, as well as reduce deck building diversity.
Tournaments
Every couple of months, we host a 50€ budget tournament in Gießen, Germany. These tournaments are always exciting and very competitive. You can find decks from our tournaments on this website to give you an impression of how powerful they are. It’s not unusual for them to be able to represent game wins as early as turns 4 and 5.
Tournament Format
Our local tournaments start out with 3 rounds during which players have to go up against a new pod of 3 different players each time. The 4 best performing players then participate in a final match, the winner of which takes the grand prize. To win a tournament, a player usually has to win 3 of the 4 games they played that day.
How do I participate?
You can find the detailed rules document and sign up page at the link down below (German). Signups are open until 3 days before the tournament, which is also the deck submission deadline.
